Smells from the Kitchen

When baking, follow directions.
When cooking, go by your own taste."
Laiko Bahrs

Have you ever been asked, if you had no limits of time, money, or talent, what would you love to do or be?  Most likely, because we've all had dreams of being a doctor, ballerina, firefighter, rocket scientist...  Have your childhood dreams carried over to adulthood, or have your dreams changed as situations in life change?

Me?  As a child and youth, I wanted to be a veterinarian, in college I trained to become a journalist/writer, but in reality I escaped college with a degree in elementary education. Have my dreams or direction changed?  You bet!  For most of my married life, I've dreamed of attending culinary or baking/pastry institute. The closest thing I've gotten to this dream is Alton Brown's Good Eats show on Food Network ( I love the science behind cooking) and a King Arthur baking seminar I attended once.  Sigh

I love being in the kitchen and cooking and baking - it's very therapeutic at times, especially when I'm kneading bread. I love seeing the pleasure of my family enjoying a meal.  Our meals are not elaborate or fancy, and to my husbands dislike, I love trying new recipes. My silly brain is always telling me "Oh, if this is good, there has to be a better one out there."   "Why can't you just fix things the same each time" he always inquires.

Below you will find links to my recipe blog Cooking with Aspiring Mom2three.  I hope you take the recipes, make them your own.  I certainly didn't come up with all of these on my own, but have attributed them to the cooks I've received them from, when possible. Would love to hear from you if you prepare one of these.  Happy baking and preparing!

Nothing would be more tiresome than eating and drinking if God had not made them a pleasure as well as a necessity.  ~Voltaire

Recipe:  A series of step-by-step instructions for preparing ingredients you forgot to buy, in utensils you don't own, to make a dish the dog wouldn't eat.  ~Author Unknown
