Mommy's Piggy Tales: A Far East special delivery

Many of you may wonder why I am continuing for a second session of Piggy Tales.  It's not that I had an overly exciting life, but  some day, our children will wonder about our lives, especially our childhood.  There have been so many times that I've sat in a room, surrounded by aunts and uncles, shaking my head in wonder at all the stories of the experiences and life they lived, but all those memories are forever locked away, with the passing of each of them.  What a wonderful gift we could present to them if we take the time now to record them, while we still have those memories tucked away.
Sweet dreaming Harlee
Come, sit with me for a few minutes.  Grab your mocha, tea, coffee, muffin, or cereal and forget about the schedules and do-list.  For the next 14 weeks, I am participating in a project called Mommy’s Piggy Tales. Every Thursday, I’ll post a "written snapshot" of my life story. Every Monday I'll be posting, continuing from last session, about my Young Adulthood up until I married.  By the time you're finished reading, you'll probably know more than you EVER wanted to know.  I hope I don't put you to sleep like I did Harlee.

When most people hear where I was born, the first thing they do is look closely at my face, or and then they ask if my parents were in the military. Yes, my father was a builder in the Navy for many years and, while they were not transferred as much as some families, one transfer led to a slight Far East experience.
My birth announcement
Since the early years of my parents marriage, they desired to have children, but they experienced difficulties.  Test after test, appointments, and specialist only led to disappointments - year after year.  They had already filed adoption papers when they found they were being transferred to Okinawa, an island close to Japan. Less than a year after they're arrival they were surprised to find their 7 years of waiting were over, my brother Bryan.  I cannot imagine having to adjust to living in or foreign country, leaving family and friends, and having a new baby, but what if you added ANOTHER baby to the mix???  Yep, just 3 months after my brother was born, I was on the way!  Born a year and 3 days after my brother (we're both Mother's Day weekend babies), we are what you call Irish Twins.  Mom said they were thrilled, especially to have a boy AND a girl. One note she made in my baby book stated I had no visible birthmarks when I was born, but when I was 1 1/2 yrs. old two red "strawberries" appeared on my inside calf and I still have those to this day.
12 days old

I'm so glad you stopped by!  I hope that in the next 12 weeks, not only will you learn a little about me, but I'd love to get to know you as well. Since I shared my birth story, how I got my name, and about a congenital birth defect I had in the last session, I'll let you head there if you want to read more. Is there a specific story that you've heard about concerning your birth or have a unique birthplace or birthmark?

Hi Lynnet, Wow, I didn't realize your dear mother had hoped for children that long, and then God filled her arms up.

The first week always takes a bit of organizing but hopefully we'll get all the groups going and commenting. Glad to have you back!

What a wonderful story! I agree with you -- it's a great idea to write these stories down! They are treasures. Your parents must have been so happy to be blessed with you and your brother.

I was only 6 months old when my mom and dad realized that there was a reason she didn't feel well, and thirteen months after I was born, I had a sister!
